Manuscript copies, made ca. 1620-1630, of tracts written between the reigns of Mary I and James I, chiefly concerning relations with Spain, France, and the Netherlands, royal marriage negotiations, and succession to the crown. Many of the works are letters of rulers and high officials. Authors, correspondents, and subjects include Sir Francis Bacon; Nicholas Bacon; George Villiers, Duke of Buckingham; Sir William Cecil; Charles I; John Digby, Earl of Bristol; Elizabeth I; Sir Thomas Egerton; the Earl of Essex; Frederick Elector Palatine; Henry Frederick, Prince of Wales; James I; Mary, Queen of Scots; Philip II of Spain; Sir Walter Raleigh; Sir Thomas Smith; and Sir Francis Walsingham. Also present are Epitaph on Mr. Richard Burbage and The life of Sir Thomas Bodley. In sixteen physical sections, each numbered by Witham and annotated with his reading dates (1673-1674). Some sections consist of more than one work, notably no. 11, which includes 38 tracts seleacted from "a book in the hands of Sir Robert Cotton."
